Initial Datasource Setup Before Adding the Custom Views- IBM Cognos Analytics Custom Development-1

The following screens show the setup initially made before adding the Custom Views to the CASTORE1 database.

This section is used to highlight the procedure which must then be followed to include the additional custom Views, since a local Cognos datasource copy is made for the loaded tables, and on making any additional changes, the Datasource must be refreshed.

From the Manage menu, a long list of options is displayed as shown in Figure 5-15, from which we select the “Data server connections” menu.

In the next slide-out frame, we can then enter the Data connection name, AUDIT_DB_CASTORE1, and then click the + Add data server icon.

The Data server connection name, AUDIT_DB_CASTORE1, is entered, and then the Add data server + icon is clicked to give a list of Data server connection types.

There is a long scrollable list of Database and Datasource types (as shown in Figure 5-17) from which we select the IBM Db2 database type.

First, we need to enter a value (AUDIT_DB_CASTORE1) to replace the New data server connection default value shown at the top of the second panel.

Next, as shown in Figure 5-18, the option to use a signon is selected, and the + icon causes the third panel to slide open with a JDBC URL template for entry of the <hostname>, <port>, and <databasename> values replacing these placeholders.

The entered credentials are tested.

The Manage menu is selected again.

The Manage option is selected, which then displays the Data server connection we created.

The Cognos user permissions can now be updated using the screen shown in Figure 5-23 after clicking the AUDIT_DB_CASTORE1 Data server connection.

From the top-left “Hamburger” icon in Figure 5-24, we now select the Administration console… menu item, and then we select the Configuration tab shown in Figure 5-25.
